I became interested in cupcake and cake decorating when I realized it was just another way of illustrating and painting... except instead of using gesso or ink, I could work with icing and gel pens. And then I get to eat my art!

A few years ago I took a beginner's class in cake decorating. We were given lots of patterns and shapes to trace onto our cakes. Well, it took just one class for me to start "icing outside the lines". You don't have to think like an artist to make a pretty cupcake. If you doodle with a pen, you can doodle with icing.

There are tons of great crafty books out there to give you inspiration for cutsey cupcake designs, but this site is about being inspired by "real art" (so to speak). Check out my designs for examples of drawing still-lifes on your cake, or finding influence in art-deco design. And then send me your own!
